Prof. Duncan Shaw is an Operational Researcher who works closely with organisations to support their decision making. He is a Professor of Operational Research and Critical Systems. As Director of the Aston CRISIS Centre (a Centre for Research Into Safety and Security), Duncan is the Principal Investigator of the Evacuation Responsiveness by Government Organisations (ERGO) Project which is a £0.5m, 3-year project that is co-funded by the European Commission. more
Dr Patrick Tissington is a Chartered Psychologist specialising in the study of emergency decision making. He has 10 years experience of working with the emergency services and is a Visiting Fellow at the UK Fire Service College where he lectures to Fire Officers at all levels of command on incident command. His PhD (sponsored by the UK Home Office) researched the emergency decision making of fire command teams. more
Dr Pavel Albores is a Lecturer in Operations Management at Aston Business School. His area of specialisation is Discrete Event Simulation. He has acted as consultant in the areas of manufacturing simulation and in the analysis of emergency response to terrorist attacks for the Fire Service and the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister in the UK. more
Kevin Arbuthnot Kevin Arbuthnot became a firefighter in 1975. He was promoted to Assistant Chief Fire Officer, (head of operations), in West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS). He was appointed Deputy Chief Fire Officer in January 2000, with responsibilities as deputy to the chief fire officer/ chief executive, Director of Operations, and member of the Management Board of WY Fire and Rescue Service. more
Magesh Nagarajan is a Researcher in the ERGO project and a Doctoral Student in the Operations and Information Management group. more
Paul Kailiponi is a researcher with the ERGO project and doctoral student with the Operations and Information Management group.  His research interests include applied quantitative research methods, econometrics, geographic information systems (GIS) and the application of these techniques to emergency management. more
Susan Anson is a Researcher on the ERGO project and a doctoral student in the Work and Organisational Psychology group. She graduated from Aston University with first class honours in BSc Marketing in 2005. more

The Advisory Board

The Ergo project has an Advisory Board of senior practitioners from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Iceland,  Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. This Board meets twice per year to review progress and direct the focus of activity onto practically relevant issues in mass evacuation.
